Therapist-Crisis Service assesses for suicide and homicide risk, supporting the primary care team, the social services teams and other care team staff in safety planning and emergency intervention with youth and adult clients. Care is embedded in trauma-informed, harm-reduction, anti-oppression, anti-racist, and restorative/transformative justice frameworks. This position provides consultation and training to HBH staff, helping to integrate behavioral health in all aspects of care. The Therapist-Crisis Service will be based at one of the Howard Brown locations and travel may be required. Care provided may also include single session, short-term (2-24 sessions. How you will make an impact: - Provide brief and crisis intervention services for Howard Brown Health patients and community members. Provide consultation regarding the management of patient-related crises -Assess suicide and homicide risk of patient, lead crisis intervention efforts and, if necessary, involuntary hospitalization. - Develop and provide individual, couples, family and group therapy services as needed for patients accessing crisis services at Howard Brown. Target groups include gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals and other at-risk individuals of varied ethnic backgrounds, as well as HIV/AIDS impacted clients. - Screen for and link patients with internal psychiatry, substance use services and/or ongoing therapy services. - Manage interactions with patients to ensure appropriate level of support is provided in an efficient manner. - Efficiency with information gathering and problem solving to facilitate resolution of patients inquiries. -Train Howard Brown staff on suicide assessment, crisis intervention, documentation, safety planning and care planning, supportive intervention and communication and other mental health topics to increase staff comfort/confidence in helping patients manage emotional distress and develop coping skills. - Document contact with patients and progress of patients concisely in the electronic medical record in accordance with policies and procedures. - Demonstrate empathy, courtesy, collaborative team work,and maintain professional behavior at all times. - Provide clinical supervision to practicum/internship students engaged in drop-in milieu intervention and/or individual or group therapy. - Offer consultation and support to paraprofessional staff engaged in direct service at Howard Brown Health. - Participate in quality assurance activities including program evaluation, staff development, continuing education and outcome assessment. - Provide education to the community, the general public and other professionals through public speaking engagements and workshops. - Attend and participate in all required meetings, including multi-disciplinary case conferences, departmental meetings, on-going trainings, group consultation and individual supervision. - Maintain the highest level of patient confidentiality. - Meets weekly productivity standards including, but not limited to, number of encounters per week. - Performs other duties as assigned. What you will bring to Howard Brown Health QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL REQUIRED: Required: Masters or doctoral degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a related field. Must attain terminal licensure within 6 months of hire. Bilingual (Spanish/English). Experience utilizing trauma-informed, harm reduction, and strength based approaches. Must be able to demonstrate strong communication, organization and written skills. One (1) year of experience providing crisis assessments and interventions; preferred 2 or more years One (1) year of experience working with culturally diverse populations; preferred 2 or more years Understanding of evidence-based practices and application to vulnerable populations including Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing and Medication Assisted Treatment and Crisis Assessment. Understanding of American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria for determining levels of service for substance use disorders. Ability to communicate and problem solve effectively with diverse audiences. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong team building and interdisciplinary communication skills Knowledge of community resources in the region. Must be able to weekdays, evenings and Saturdays Preferred: Experience working with diverse communities, especially those impacted by HIV/AIDS Knowledge of health disparities, substance use and domestic violence issues within the LGBTQ community Skilled in motivational interviewing Bilingual English/Spanish and Deaf/HOH communication skills ADA SPECIFICATIONS Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively. Requires ability to use computers, telephones and other office equipment. Requires ability to sit for extended periods of time. May require occasional bending and lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires frequent travel between clinic sites.
