Position SummaryA summary of a Medical Scribes duties include performing all clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinic setting. This includes primary responsibility of the operation of the electronic health records and electronic dictation system. You also must be able anticipate physician needs to facilitate the flow of clinic. Medical Scribes must be discreet, tactful, and modest in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care. Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated are especially important when working as a Medical Scribe.RequirementsEssential Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesAccurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to:Patient medical history and physical exam,Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-upPrepare referral letters as directed by the physicianEducation RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Experience:6 months experience as a Medical Scribe.6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Skills:1. Medical terminology.2. Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details.3. Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.4. Legible handwriting and ability to accurately record information.5. Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.6. Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.Other Requirements:1. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.2. Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
